    There are a vast number of variations on what ingredients you can use when you make Glühwein. But the spices are generally similar from one recipe to another. The below Recipe is a tried & tested Glühwein recipe from one of our favourite caterers, By Word of Mouth. Thanks guys for sharing this recipe with us! It is a real treat on a chilly winter’s evening

    Serves: 7 servings

    Quantity per serving: 250ml

    Ingredients:

    • 1 litre Red Wine
    • 500 ml Orange Juice
    • 375 g Sugar
    • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
    • 3 Star Anise
    • 5 Cloves
    • 1 Apple, grated
    • 150 ml Brandy
    • 200 ml Port

    Garnish:

    • Cinnamon sticks
    • Cloves
    • Orange slices

    Method:

    1. Combine orange juice; sugar; cinnamon sticks; star anise; cloves; grated apple and bring to the boil
    2. Add the red wine; brandy & port
    3. Let it simmer for a while
    4. Strain before serving
    5. Serve in a red wine glass with 1 cinnamon stick; a few cloves & a slice of orange
